Mushroom Dinner July 2013

by essjayeats on July 7, 2013

Those crazy, rambling delicious mushrooms are at it again. We’ve got a new date: and we’re celebrating the reopening of The Commoner (yay!) Here we are in the depth of winter, it’s blowing a gale most days and the temperature makes you wish for a hot toddie or a lovely glass of red. Perfect weather to indulge in the earthy deliciousness of wild mushrooms.

What: Dinner featuring wild mushrooms.
When: Thursday 18 July  7 pm
Where: The Commoner, 122 Johnston St, Fitzroy
How much: $89.30 including booking fee.
How to book:  Only via TryBooking

Suitable for: Omnivores, vegetarians and gluten free diners (menu below).

If you joined us to forage for mushrooms last year you will have met Matt from Mushrooms Anonymous and Jo from The Commoner as they taught us how to identify wild mushrooms and what to look for when foraging; who then cooked them up for us in a most delicious lunch.

This year has been a pretty bad season for mushrooms in Victoria, which has led Matt to search far and wild for mushrooms; and we’ve moved to a celebratory dinner in the city. Much warmer than the shed at Bress and slightly more convenient for most of us.

There’ll be more mushrooms than you can poke an opinel mushroom knife at, a couple of glasses of wine to match the lovely food.

Starters: Mushroom & cheese puffs & mushrooms on toast

Entree: Mushroom broth, goats cheese, crispy pigs ear and sorrel

Main: 62 degree egg with mushrooms, crumbed sweetbreads and walnuts.

Dessert: something amazing

When you book – there is a place to detail any dietary requirements.  Unfortunately if you don’t let us know when you book we may not be able to accommodate you. Email as soon as you can if you forget on fringefoodfestival.com.au.

If you’d like a bit more to drink, we’ll be selling additional glasses of our chosen wine tastes over the bar.

As usual there will be a chance to hear from Matt as to what factors affect the mushroom season and what he found when he searched elsewhere.  Jo and myself will be on the floor so we’ll be around to chat as well.

When you book – there is a place to detail any dietary requirements.  Unfortunately if you don’t let us know when you book we may not be able to accomodate you (but we’ll try our best). Email as soon as you can if you forget on fringefoodfestival.com.au.

We’re very much looking forward to seeing all you fringe foodies again!

HELLO!!!!

I so wish I could attend this event, but alas I now live in Sydney (once again)… Hope you have been well? I wonder if perhaps we could bring FFF to Sydney sometime…. Food for thought (pun intended)!
