Four years ago Perigord black truffles were something to enjoy occasionally, at a fine diner or while on holiday in France.  I’d eaten them twice before in tiny slivers at fine dining restaurants and wasn’t overly excited, but after I’d carried some beautiful, fresh WA truffles around in my handbag for a few hours before our first ever dinner I was hooked. With the help of some amazing chefs, and some amazing truffle growers I’ve tasted many, many more since. Each year I have a favourite, Braidwood (outside of Canberra) last year, Otway Harvest  from the Otway Ranges the year before.

For the fourth time Fringe Food is teaming up with one of our favourite supporters, Chef Scott Pickett, to bring luxurious Australian black truffles to the people. Yay for the people!

Scotty has designed a four course menu which we will be serving alongside some smashingly fine wines. He’ll be using generous serves of truffles from all over Australia. If the weather holds we’ll have them from four states, but being a seasonal and delicate little beastie, and we insist on bringing you only the best, this could change on the night. Which one will be your favourite this year?

Madame Truffles will be working her magic to provide some special giveaways and everyone will leave with information on how best to buy and use truffles at home. Her ethereal retail truffle shop will be open from July 3 in Yarra Place South Melbourne, opposite St Ali.

Our dinners feature small gatherings, with an educational bent, and access to producers, chefs and sellers. You won’t get a better opportunity to expand your knowledge of Australian truffles this truffle season, and all included in a $130 per person charge, no truffle supplement required!
